Every business has a name. For most companies, there usually is an obvious connection between the name and the services/products that are provided and often even who the owner is, such as “Fred the Plumber” or “Hammond Electric”. But where does a name like “Paradigm” come from? And how does a simple name like “Paradigm Plumbing” stretch out to become “Paradigm Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning”?
Paradigm History
So where did owner Steve Labbe’s “Paradigm” company name come from? Steve says, “My wife asked me what I was going to call my new business, and after thinking about it for a second, I said ‘Paradigm Plumbing and Heating’. It made sense. I had been reading a lot of Stephen Covey, author of ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’, and what I wanted to do was provide services based on listening to and meeting client needs, desires and budget. Doing it differently, taking the ‘Paradigm Shift’, was what interested me. Using that name in my business name made sense.”
But guess what? Steve recently added a new division to Paradigm, an electrical division. Will the name get longer? That could be a mouthful. “No, there will be no name change,” states Steve. “We decided to add this service because we know that for a lot of people, it’s hard getting time with an electrician to provide needed service.”
It’s obvious that it’s not the norm for a company to offer multiple services like plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical under the same roof. Steve comments, “But Paradigm is not the norm. The solution was to think out of the box – take the Paradigm Shift – and offer electrical services ourselves through our company. It will be good for our customers, as well as for us as the demand for our other services fluctuates.”
It’s Pride in Our Name and What We Offer
Steve adds, “For me, Paradigm was the name I wanted to use. It means a change in how you think. One of my business friends is a locksmith and lives in Goffstown, so he named his business ‘Goffstown Lock and Key’. Another is in landscaping and likes the word ‘giant’, so he called his business ‘Giant Landscaping’. We all love what we do. It’s exciting to have a business name you can be proud of.
Just think of it. If our clients have a plumbing problem, they can turn to us. If they have heating or air conditioning problems, they can rely on us. And now, if they need electrical help, Paradigm is available to offer the same quality of services to be meet their needs, expectations, and budget.”
So, what do you do if you have questions or need help? Call Paradigm. It’s all in our name.
